Fata Morgana is a video project inspired by the optical phenomenon of the same name, which appears where the sea meets the sky. This illusory mirage – floating ships, mountains, and cities – is born from a unique interaction of atmospheric layers. Likewise, my work exists at the edge of the visible and the imagined, the present and the lost.
For the past three years, I have been unable to return to the shores of the Azov Sea – the place where I grew up and where I came face to face with the war. In an attempt to restore a lost connection with my native sea, I now turn to the coastlines of Ireland, where I currently live: seeking out familiar sounds, scents, colors, and rhythms.
This video is an attempt to make the distant appear close, the desired seem real. It explores the shore as a space of memory and longing, a line where personal history intersects with geopolitical reality.
