When Russia’s invasion expanded beyond Donbas in 2022, every settlement in Ukraine, every residential district, and every home became a potential target. As Russia launched nightly attacks with ballistic missiles and drones — and, closer to the eastern and southern borders, with aircraft and artillery — images of damaged and destroyed homes became part of everyday morning news.
This cruel “Russian roulette,” echoing the lived experience of civilians across Ukraine throughout the full-scale war, became the foundation of the Randomiser series. Consisting of 24 ceramic tiles with no fixed arrangement, the work can be endlessly reconfigured, forming ever-changing patterns of unpredictable destruction and violence.
